Raleighwood Portland Kitchen Remodel
Project Overview
This Raleighwood kitchen remodel in Portland gave a classic mid-century home a bold, modern kitchen that still feels warm and welcoming. Deep charcoal cabinetry with brushed gold hardware sets the tone, balanced by bright white countertops, a soft glossy subway tile backsplash, and warm hardwood floors. A large center island with a built-in gas range anchors the space and keeps the cook connected to the dining area, the living room, and views of the garden.

The Challenge
Client Goals & Pain Points:
The original kitchen no longer fit the way the homeowners cook and live. Storage was hard to reach, the work areas felt disconnected, and the finishes looked dated next to the home’s mid-century character, like the brick fireplace and wood-trimmed sliding doors. They wanted a kitchen with real presence: dark, dramatic cabinetry, plenty of organized storage, and an island where they could cook while still talking with family and guests.
The Solution
What We Did:
We designed an L-shaped layout around a large center island and set a slide-in gas range into the island, so the cook faces the dining area and living room instead of a wall. Charcoal Shaker cabinets run floor to ceiling along the pantry wall, with roll-out shelves inside for easy access to dry goods, while a corner lazy Susan and deep soft-close drawers make every base cabinet work harder. Brushed gold pulls and brass-accented range knobs add warmth against the dark finish.
White quartz countertops and a glossy subway tile backsplash brighten the work zones, and under-cabinet lighting keeps them well lit. The sink sits beneath a wide window that looks out to the bamboo garden, with a workstation sink and pull-down faucet for easy prep and cleanup. A built-in microwave drawer, French-door refrigerator, and pop-up island outlet round out a kitchen that is as practical as it is striking.
